The Manitoba Junior Hockey League champion Winkler Flyers won their Centennial Cup round robin opener Thursday in Oakville, Ontario. Dalton Andrew scored all four goals and Malachi Klassen made 17 saves as Winkler downed the Superior International Junior Hockey League champion Sioux Lookout Bombers 4-2. The Flyers next game is Saturday at 11 a.m. against the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League champion Melfort Mustangs.


Pembina Valley U15 AAA Hawks teammates forward Cole Secord and defenseman Paxton White, both from La Salle, were chosen in the 2024 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft. Secord, who had 28 goals and 26 assists in 26 games, went to the Kamloops Blazers in round three. White had six goals and 14 assists in 30 games and was chosen by the Edmonton Oil Kings in round six. Cohen Lewko of Sanford went to the Saskatoon Blades in round four. The first Manitoban selected was forward Tyden Lafournaise of Winnipeg who was taken 13th overall by Lethbridge in round one.


The Moose Jaw Warriors meet the Winterhawks in Portland tonight in game one of the Western Hockey League's best-of-seven championship series. The Warriors defeated the Blades 3-2 in Saskatoon Tuesday night in the deciding seventh game of their Eastern Conference final. Lynden Lakovic scored the overtime winner for Moose Jaw. The Winterhawks eliminated the Prince George Cougars in six games in the Western Conference final. 


Aerin Frankel made 53 saves and Susanna Tapani scored 14:25 into overtime as Boston defeated Montreal 2-1 in game one of their best-of-five PWHL semifinal. Game two goes Saturday in Montreal.


Winnipeg Blue Bombers rookie camp ends today. The final practice session is from 10:15 a.m-12:20 p.m. at the field beside Winnipeg Soccer Federation South. Main camp starts Sunday. The Bombers first pre-season game is Monday, May 20th in Regina against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost their 2024 American Association season opener 5-3 to the Cleburne Railroaders in Texas. Dayson Croes had two hits and drove in two runs for the Goldeyes. Winnipeg starter Colton Eastman took the loss. He allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits over five innings of work. Tasker Strobel and Grant Townsend combined to pitch the final three innings for the Fish.


Lindsay Miller scored twice and Gabbi Hildebrand had the clean sheet as the Morden U17 Eagles blanked SWCC Coopinger 8-0. Logan Speers, Casey O'Brien, Vanessa Franz, Kaydence Wiens, Kayla Fehr and Jood Abujazia also scored for the Eagles who are 2-0 to start the 2024 Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association season. 


The 20th Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony was held Thursday night at the Breezy Bend Country Club. Inducted into the Hall were Hugh Allan, Darcy Furber, Dave McMillan, Gavin Speirs and Adam Speirs.
