Jayce Legaarden scored a pair of first period power play goals in the Winkler Flyers 5-3 victory over the Portage Terriers Wednesday night at the Centennial Arena. Legaarden completed his hat trick scoring a shorthanded marker with 4:20 left in regulation. Avery Anderson and Trent Penner also found the back of the net for the Flyers who lead the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's best-of-seven East Division semifinal two games to one. Matthew Biros, Decker Mujcin and Daniel Siso replied for the Terriers. Game four goes Friday at Stride Place in Portage.


Kyle VanDeynze scored twice and Logan Enns stopped 42 shots including all 20 he faced in the third period as the Pembina Valley Twisters defeated the St. Boniface Riels 3-1 at the Southdale Arena in Winnipeg. Lucas Jolicoeur also scored for the Twisters who lead the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League's best-of-seven semifinal two games to none. Game three goes Saturday in Morris.


Swift Current Broncos goaltender Reid Dyck has been named to the Western Hockey League's Central Division Second All-Star Team. The 20-year-old Winkler native had a 25-7-2 record with a 2.70 goals against average and a .911 save percentage this season. The Broncos will face the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the opening round of the WHL playoffs. Moose Jaw Warriors captain Denton Mateychuk was named to the East Division First All-Star Team. The 19-year-old Dominion City native had 17 goals and 58 assists in 52 games with the Warriors. Moose Jaw will meet the Brandon Wheat Kings in round one of the playoffs. 


The Manitoba Moose dropped a 2-1 decision to the Toronto Marlies at Canada Life Centre. Logan Shaw won it for the Marlies as he scored his 25th of the season 51 seconds into overtime. Jeffrey Viel had the lone goal for the Moose.


Jordon McDonald has a 6-0 round robin record; Jace Freeman is 5-1; Shaela Hayward is 3-2 and Zoey Terrick is 0-4 heading into day five of the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, Alberta. McDonald defeated Tyler MacTavish of Ontario 11-3 and Nick Mosher of Nova Scotia 9-3. Freeman downed Kenan Wipf of Alberta 8-3 and lost 8-5 to Ian Deschene of Northern Ontario. Hayward beat Emma Acres of Ontario 5-3 and Terrick fell 8-3 to Jolianne Fortin of Quebec.
