Residents were asked to leave their homes Monday night after a gas leak was reported on 4th Street South in Winkler

 

 

A gas leak on 4th Street South in Winkler between Pembina Avenue and Peters Avenue led to a number homes being evacuated Monday evening.   Winkler Fire Rescue responded to the call around 7 o'clock, and when they arrived on the scene discovered a homeowner had punctured a natural gas line while digging out a flower bed.

Officials tell us homes on 4th Street South between Pembina and Peters, as well as homes on the east side of 3rd Street South were evacuated as a precaution. To help disperse the gas, fire crews sprayed the leak with a fog of water.

Manitoba Hydro crews clamped the leak, and residents were allowed back into their homes around 7:45 p.m. Manitoba Hydro offers a free service where they will check your property and mark where any lines may be.
