La Riviere is throwing a party this weekend to celebrate 130 years of being a community.

A parade, a by-donation community breakfast, silent auction, artisan and craft show, farmer's market, a 10 pound quilt on display, and more is planned for July 30 to Aug. 1.

"It's called the La Riviere Homecomeing, Celebrating 130 Years" said one of the organizers, Evelyn Janzen. "It's 130 years that La Riviere has gotten its charter for existence."

Volunteer, Maurice Deamel shared they will be celebrating the occassion with a community parade on Sunday.

"We are going to have approximately 50 floats in the parade.  We have everything that you can pretty much imagine.  We have the Shriners and the Masons.  The Boundary Trails Rail Line is putting a float in.  We have motorcycles and horses. Pretty well you name it, we got it."

Deamel notes they will also be hosting a drive-up car show for classic, antique and new vehicles on Sunday.

He adds they are expecting two fun filled days for the whole family in La Riviere this weekend.

Originally a railway town, the site was owned by Canada Pacific Railway (CPR). The company built there to access the river so it could fuel the steam engines.
