The Pilot Mound Museum recently received a $1,500grant from Westoba Credit Union through their Inspire Program.

The museum is enjoying its new home at the Pilot Mound Millennium Complex and is hoping for a January opening on the second floor of the complex.

Museum Chairperson, Heather Brewster, says the $1500 grant will go towards the purchase of a new computer system.

“We are excited and grateful for the grant from Westoba’s Inspire program and thank Westoba for supporting the museum,” shares Brewster. “This computer will enable us to create a top-notch cataloging system for our collection and enable us to create posters and display information within the museum saving us both time and money.”

Brewster hopes museums will be back up and running once the COVID numbers are back down.  She says there has been added interest in local and personal history since the pandemic began.

“I’d like to see more people dive in to their history,” she says. “I know with the lockdown, those who enjoy genealogy and history have really dived into local history and their own past.  We’ve had people from all over Canada emailing the museum, the chamber of commerce and the municipality, asking questions about their ancestors that had lived in Pilot Mound and the Louise area, Crystal City and Clearwater, as well.”

“So, we’ve had to have some positive out of this pandemic and that is one that we’re seeing.”

The Pilot Mound Museum is in its final phase of setting up their displays in the Millennium Complex.
