The Town of Altona has decided to hire a private company to provide jail guard services. Up until now, Altona Police Service has paid local citizens to keep a watch on prisoners in the local jail.

However, Deputy Mayor Earl Dick says it was becoming increasingly difficult to find people to the job on a consistent basis. As a result, town council has approved of contracting that out to D & A Security Services based in Schanzenfeld.

Dick says the company will provide trained personnel to watch over prisoners at a cost of $13 an hour.
