The Pembina Valley Humane Society (PVHS) received some support to the tune of $5,000 Wednesday from the Winkler Scotiabank.

"We've been incredibly appreciative every year. It goes a long way in helping us meet the expenses we have each year," said PVHS board president Cindy Kalansky.

This money was raised during the Pembina Valley Humane Society's annual Step For Pets fundraiser.

"For a number of years we have supported the Pembina Valley Humane Society. We raise money to support costs and their event and through one of our programs at Scotiabank, the money raised, we are able to match up to $5,000 so that's what we are doing here today," said Branch Manager Kerri Leroux.

"We have a number of employees that get really involved in this event as well. Its great to see their participation and we like to be able to contribute the most that we are able to," added Leroux.

Kalansky noted the the walk-a-thon in Morden had to be postponed, due to some inclement weather. She stated this did cause them to raise less money than previous years, as not as many were able to attend and they raised roughly $12,000 instead of usual when they are closer to $15,000. The PVHS is still looking for more donations to help with the cost of operating the facility.
