The exceptional growth is not necessarily something that was expected for Winkler's C.W. Wiebe Medical Centre when it moved into the A.L.G. Professional Centre in the city's downtown area 15 years ago.

In the time since the move, the clinic has undergone a number of additions.

"I've looked back at some minutes from different meetings that we've had, and at the time when we were moving into our initial space, which was 12,300 and some square feet, we felt we would probably have enough space to meet the needs for the next 10 to 15 years," said Clinic Administrator Jim Neufeld.  "In this case being wrong has probably been a good thing."

The latest addition to the clinic is a 4,000 square foot space dedicated to the practice's six surgeons to conduct patient consults and follow-ups.

Neufeld notes the new surgical area has its own entrance, which allows for flexible hours that can differ from the rest of the practice.  He says that aspect helps from an operational standpoint, as the demands and services are a little unique from a primary care setting.  Neufeld notes they are very happy to have been able to keep everybody together in the same facility, which is really important to them.  "There's lots of benefits from primary care providers having access to surgeons, and hallway consults...so we're still connected."

Meanwhile, Neufeld says a second Obstetrician Gynaecologist will be joining the clinic this summer, as well as an Internal Medicine Specialist, which is a new specialty to the area.

As of October 2016 (projected) there will be 32 Family physicians at the C.W. Wiebe Medical Centre, 9 specialists (including 6 surgeons) and 11 other primary care providers.
