Morden's Logan Christensen returned to Manitoba as part of the Saskatoon Blades Western Hockey League (WHL) schedule this past weekend to face the Brandon Wheat Kings.

"Tonight (Friday) was a tough one for sure," said Christensen when asked about Friday's tough 3-2 shootout loss to the Wheat Kings. "We are trying to leap frog these guys to get into the playoffs, but we'll just have to forget about this one and go into tomorrow."

As it stands at the Christmas break the Wheat Kings are four points ahead of the Blades (13-19-3-1) for the final wildcard playoff spot who have played three more games than Brandon (15-14-4).

This was the third time this season Saskatoon made the roughly six hour bus trip to Westman Place to face the defending champion Brandon.

"It's awesome. Coming to the home province, and having a few family members out. It's always fun," said Christensen.

Unfortunately the Blades are 0-3 in those games, but Christensen was able to draw an assist on his teams second goal, scored by Lukus MacKenzie.

"They will be impressed that I am starting to get out there in those important situations," said Christensen, who was a key cog in the teams penalty kill, saw some power play time, was out late in the third, and played in the overtime period.

Last season he got into 61 games and recorded four goals and 16 points, while this season, he's already found the back of the net seven times and has 15 points.

"It was a bit of a longer summer, but I think I trained hard enough and it's paying off," added Christensen.

Christensen noted his highlight of his young WHL career would be scoring his first goal, against the Swift Current Broncos last season in his seventh game.
