Eli Carels and Cade Kowalski both had three point nights as the Pembina Valley Hawks dumped the Norman Northstars 5-1 Thursday night.

"I hit a few posts, had a number of nice set ups just couldn't bury," said Carels when asked about his chances for the hat trick.

Aaron Brunn let in his only goal of the game, when Hunter Halcrow found the back of the net on the power play with Tristan Galarneau and Keith Blacksmith picking up the assists on the play. Norman out shot Pembina Valley 8-6 in the opening period.

Evertt Bestland knotted the game up at one, under five minutes into the middle frame, and shortly after the halfway point of the game Carels was able to beat Norman goaltender Braedin Melsted for his first of two on the night.

"It was good to pull of the win tonight and get the two points. The boys played good in the second in the second and third," said Quad Froese.

Pembina Valley conintued to push forward and tallied three more times in the final frame. Carels, Kowalski, and Sven Schefer put the puck in the net for the now 4 and 3 Hawks.

"It feels good. I've been battling pretty hard to try and get that. It's hard to get it, but it feels good once you get it," said Kowalski about his first goal as a Hawk.

Brunn made 24 saves in the win, while Melsted turned aside 28 of the 33 he faced taking the loss.

The Hawks will hit the ice a pair of times this weekend, Saturday (Parkland) and Sunday (Interlake), at the Manitoba "AAA" Midget Hockey League Showcase Weekend in Portage.

"We go out there and play hockey the way we set it up in our game plan. If we get away from our game plan, any team in this league is going to put up a good game against you and if we stick to our game plan I have confidence that we can beat any team in this league," said head coach Rylan Price.
