Kevin Hayes scored a power play goal with 69 seconds remaining in regulation as the New York Rangers defeated the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 on Thursday night at MTS Centre.

Hayes potted his 11th of the season with Jets forward Drew Stafford in the penalty box serving a two-minute minor for high-sticking.

"That was one where we felt like two points being taken away from us a little bit there," said Stafford. "Just unfortunate for it to end like that. So take what we can from it here and get ready for a good road trip. I hope we follow up like our previous road trip."

Chris Kreider also scored for the Rangers.

Mark Scheifele, who missed the previous four games with an injury, had the lone goal for the Jets.

New York netminder Antti Raanta made 17 saves while Winnipeg's Michael Hutchinson faced 24 shots.

The Jets (13-14-3) will play road games against the Calgary Flames on Saturday and the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.
