A new community slogan is coming to Morden to fill the vacant space in front of the Morden sign which used to carry the names of John and Bonnie Buhler who helped sponsor the project.

Starting Thursday Sept. 15, ballots can be picked up at various locations including the Morden Civic Centre, or follow the link to at mordenmb.ca (link to website) to find the online submission form.

"The idea for a town slogan," said selection committee member Peter Cantelon, "came about after a conversation between [me] and [John and Bonnie Buhler] about how we can better represent the community. We all agreed that pitching this to the community, giving them the opportunity to come up with something that everyone is going to have a chance to vote on, and it's going to be something that reflects the community itself, made the most sense."

Cantelon is also the executive director of the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre in Morden.

He said that dozens of ballots were already received before the official start date. Certain messages can easily be excluded, those which mention the Buhlers will not be accepted as per the couple's request.

Anyone can submit slogan ideas, but only Morden residents can vote on the final selections.

"We really wanted to make sure this decision was something that the city and it's residents chose," said Cantelon.

Submissions will be accepted until Sept. 23 when the Morden Community Development Corportation's (MCDC) Tourism and Marketing Committee will narrow the submissions down to three options which best represent the slogan ideas that came in. Then voting will begin Oct. 1. Ballots for voting on the three final selections will be available at the Morden Civic Centre or online.
