The Western School Division will begin accepting nominations on May 7th to fill the vacant trustee position created by the resignation of David Guenther.

WSD's Secretary Treasurer, Carl Pedersen will serve as Senior Election Offical.

To qualify, a prospective candidate must be a Western School Division (WSD) resident for at least the past six months. A candidate must also be 18 years of age, and a Canadian citizen.

Pedersen noted that any qualifying Western School Division resident can run for the Ward 1 vacancy.

The nomination period will run until 5 pm on May 13th.

"On the 14th (May), if we have more than one candidate, we'll be determining ballot order, and then we'll go through the election."

The date for advance polls is Thursday, June 13th. The By-election date is Thursday, June 18th.

Both the advance polls and the election day polls will be held at the Finer Spirit Hall, attached to St. Pauls United Church.

For those interested in the role, Pedersen says a nomination must be accompanied by at least twenty-five signatures of residents within Ward 1, who are on the current voters list.

"I would recommend getting lots of extra signatures, just in case people aren't on the voter's list," added Pedersen. "They have to be on the voters list to qualify for nominations."

Nomination packages can be picked up at the WSD office, on weekdays, between 9 am and 5 pm.
