Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler is encouraging Manitobans to show their support for the province's Climate and Green Plan, which according to him, would have the lowest carbon pricing in Canada.

The Made-in-Manitoba plan would set a carbon tax at $25 dollars per tonne going forward.

The federal government says that price is too low, as it wants that rate to jump to $50 dollars per tonne by the year 2022.

"That's politics," said Eichler. "It would be a stand-off. I don't think they would impose something on Manitobans, if in fact Manitobans are behind our plan. That would be really tough for the federal government to try to take on all Manitobans. They want to remain in power, and I feel very strongly that we have the right plan for Manitoba."

Manitobans have until the end of the month to submit their opinions on the provincial government website.
