MK Agro Ltd, located in Brunkild, Manitoba, won the national prize in the Thank A Retailer contest sponsored by agrichemical company ADAMA Canada.

As national winner and finalist for the province, the independent retailer won a total of $30,000 to go towards their chosen charities.

MK Agro has decided to donate the money to the Kelly Kabernick Girls High School Hockey Memorial Scholarship and the Sanford Hockey Arena, and will also be adding an additional $20,000 for a total of $50,000!

The charitable foundation was recently established to honour Kabernick, a farmer and father of five who was killed in an accident in October 2017.

"Kelly would be thrilled about putting this money back into the community," said Kelly's wife, Christine.

MK Agro is owned by Kabernick's long-time friends Paul Kaminsky and Brent MacLean.

"We're so happy we could be a part of this contest and that so many people rallied behind us and the Kabernick family. It's mind-blowing that, between the regional and national contests, people voted for us over 50,000 times!" said Kaminsky. "We are so humbled, and forever grateful. Good people taking time every day to do a good thing, for someone they may not even know — I like that. Kelly would have liked that, too."

"It's great to be recognized for what we do, by ADAMA and our customers," added MacLean. "And now to be able to give this money back to our community in honour of Kelly, that's just amazing!"
