The Canadian Angus Association wrapped up its national convention in Brandon over the weekend.

A Cattlemen's Connection Day was also held on Friday.

CEO Rob Smith said the industry is keeping a close eye on the trading relationship between Canada and the US.

"There is no question that we're watching the NAFTA renegotiations with a high degree of interest because NAFTA's been a strong benefit to trade between Canadian and American cattle and beef producers and we hope that will continue and perhaps be made even easier over the course of these discussions that are taking place," he commented.

Smith will be attending the World Angus Forum in the United Kingdom coming up in the next couple of weeks.

He says one of things they'll be talking about is the high demand for Canadian genetics abroad.
