Growth in the Canadian cattle herd continues to remain flat, as was indicated in the July 1 inventory report.

Brian Perillat is the manager and senior analyst at CanFax.

"If we look at the Canadian beef industry or the herd size, not a lot of change there. Our cow numbers have been flat for a good five to almost seven years. They did show a slight uptick, but less than half a per cent. Basically we're seeing a fairly stable Canadian herd."

Perillat says the herd remains similar in size to what it was back in the mid-90's.
