The next generation of Canadian beef producers were in Ottawa last week for the Canadian Cattlemen's Association's (CCA) annual general meeting.

The Young Cattlemen's Council and Cattlemen's Young Leaders had the opportunity to meet with Members of Parliament.

The CCA's Executive Vice President Dennis Laycraft says trade was a major focus at the AGM

"Right now the CPTPP has come into effect and we're looking at two parts to that. How do we optimize the sales right now into Japan in particular but also discussing sort of the expansion of that agreement in priority countries that we were able to bring into the CPTPP, reduce their tariffs and some of the measures that tend to restrict our access into those markets."

Other key topics discussed at the AGM included the new food guide and new traceability regulations.
