The way it stands now, farmers who purchase fuel at a cardlock system will have to pay the federal government's carbon tax starting April 1, 2019.

The federal government said it would exempt producers from paying the carbon tax on certain fuel used on the farm. In order to receive this exemption, producers will be required to complete and submit a form to their bulk fuel provider prior to delivery.

Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) President Bill Campbell says some recent discussions revealed that there was some wording overlooked within the legislation concerning cardlock systems.

"This has been brought to the government's attention and we're hoping that they're going to be able to deal with this prior to April 1," said Campbell. "I feel pretty confident that they will do something."
