The Canadian Transportation Agency says that both Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway exceeded their Maximum Revenue Entitlements (MRE) for Prairie grain during the 2015-2016 crop year.

CP exceeded its MRE of $677,879,839 by $3,386,483, while CN surpassed its MRE of $684,749,693 by $1,041,913.

Both railways have 30 days to pay their overages to the Western Grains Research Foundation.

A penalty of five per cent will also be applied.

Combined, the two railways moved over 40 million metric tonnes of prairie grain in 2015-2016, which is down 2.2 per cent from 2014-2015.
