A number of meetings were held over the summer exploring the possibility of a potential merger of five of the province's commodity organizations.

The groups involved include The Manitoba Corn Growers Association, Manitoba Pulse & Soybean Growers, Manitoba Flax Growers Association, National Sunflower Association of Canada and the Manitoba Wheat and Barley Growers Association.

Pam de Rocquigny is the general manager for both the Manitoba Corn Growers and Manitoba Wheat and Barley Growers Associations.

"We definitely have agreed that crop research and agronomy along with market development activities are of course going to continue to be the main focus and mandate if there's potentially a merged organization," she said.

De Rocquigny notes they are currently working on putting together a few different proposals that would be presented to the memberships.

She hopes the proposals can be ready in time for CropConnect 2018.

Rob Hannam of Synthesis Agri-Food Network is helping to facilitate the potential merger.
