Keystone Agricultural Producers President Dan Mazier says he was surprised to see agriculture mentioned in last week's federal budget.

"Inside of the budget there were little hidden nuggets on spending money on digital infrastructure, ag food processing and even on workplace employment and training, and focused around agri-food," he commented. "So that bodes very well to where even our provincial government wants to take Manitoba and get some more processing going on for the livestock industry."

Mazier notes there were a few items missing from the budget including details on the next ag policy framework. The current framework, Growing Forward 2, expires in March of 2018.

He was also hoping to see some mention of changes to farm succession rules surrounding intergenerational transition.
