Keystone Agricultural Producers says the federal government's proposed tax changes for private corporations could have severe negative impacts on family farm corporations, particularly multi-generational farms.

The changes would come into effect for 2018, with the consultation period ending on October 2, 2017.

KAP President Dan Mazier notes more time is needed for consultations due to the complexity of the issue.

"No one understands the ramifications of these changes," he commented. "It's just a review process but it needs a lot more due diligence on both parties to figure out what we want to do here moving forward."

KAP is urging producers to sign a petition from the Canadian Federation of Agriculture asking for a longer consultation period.

Mazier adds farmers can also write to their local Member of Parliament.
