It was an interesting year for Canada's dairy industry.

That from David Wiens, Dairy Farmers of Manitoba Chair and Vice-President of Dairy Farmers of Canada.

He talked about one of the big highlights from the past year.

"We concluded our National Ingredient Strategy negotiations and out of that we had the new class of milk. We call it Class 7, which is basically the protein components of milk. It's a competitively priced class."

Wiens says the opening of the new MDI plant in Winnipeg was also a highlight from the past year.

He notes the NAFTA situation and the ridiculous requests concerning supply management coming out of the U.S. was also something that dairy farmers in Canada were watching closely this past year.
