NorthStar Genetics will have three new soybean varieties available next spring.

Two of the varieties will be Roundup Ready Xtend, while the other will be Roundup Ready 2.

General Manager Ray Wytinck talked about what they strive for when developing a new variety.

"The new varieties most of them now will have the Xtend trait, which means they're resistant to Dicamba herbicide," he said. "IDC tolerance is a big issue. We want to see varieties that have good IDC scores and phytophthora, that's something we're always watching too."

Wytinck notes that NorthStar Genetics will also be introducing an early maturing hybrid corn variety next spring as well.

NorthStar Genetics hosted plot tours this week in Brandon and Oak Bluff.
