The Manitoba Pulse and Soybeans Growers (MPSG) is one of five organizations that have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore the possibility of merging into a single entity.

Executive Director Francois Labelle explains why they chose to go this route.

"Our organization, we see benefits of having a stronger group," he said. "It's not that it's going to reduce the check-off but I think that by using some common staff we can do a better job on a lot of areas and we can deliver a better product to our members."

Labelle says it makes sense for multiple growers organizations to work together, seeing as farmers grow many different types of crops.

The other groups involved in the merger talks are the Manitoba Corn Growers Association, the National Sunflower Association of Canada, the Manitoba Wheat and Barley Growers Association, and the Manitoba Flax Growers Association.

All of the groups, minus the Flax Growers, currently share a building in Carman.

Phase one of the merger exploration process is expected to be completed by April of next year.
