Manitoba's soybean harvest has pretty much wrapped up, although there may still be a few odd fields left in the western part of the province.

Dennis Lange with Manitoba Agriculture gave us his take on the past year.

"Considering the lack of rainfall we had, I think most growers are quite pleased with the yields that they got. They're not bin busters by any means, but in a lot of cases growers were able to manage and get some good yields."

Lange is predicting an average provincial yield of around 34 bushels per acre. He notes there were some issues with green seed this year, but it seemed to target only certain varieties and was dependent on environmental conditions.

There were about 1.9 million acres of soybeans grown in Manitoba this year, down from 2.3 million last year. Lange says we could see the downward trend in acres continue next year.

The edible bean harvest has also wrapped up with average to slightly-above-average yields and quality.
