The province's weed specialist has concerns about tall waterhemp.

Tammy Jones says they've seen in increase in the number of cases of the Tier 1 Noxious Weed.

"It's very aggressive as a competitor against certain crops especially soybeans and corn and the added complexity with it currently is that those waterhemp populations that are coming in are coming in with some level of herbicide resistance already."

She notes tall water hemp must be destroyed if found.

Farmers are encouraged to contact Manitoba Agriculture if they suspect tall waterhemp is present in their fields.
