The anthrax outbreak in Southeastern Manitoba now includes 2 more operations, bringing the total number of farms affected to 6.

53 deaths, 52 head of cattle and 1 horse, have occurred in the R.M.'s of Stuartburn and Franklin.

That's the largest number of deaths due to anthrax in the last 6 years in our province.

There were 24 animal deaths in 2000, 4 in 2001, 3 in 2003, and 36 in 2005.

Quaratines are in place on the 6 farms, and will be for 21 days after the final confirmed death caused by anthrax on the individual premise
