A pleasant surprise, to the tune of $20,000, will benefit community services in the Municipality of Rhineland. It's all thanks to a grant from Enbridge.

Reeve Don Wiebe says their administration plans to spend half to purchase equipment and the necessary associated training.

Some of the equipment includes an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) mobile screen set, which comes at a cost of $4,000.

"We also think that video conferencing is here to stay, and so we need some specialized equipment for that," added Wiebe, noting another $2,000 will be spent on that technology.

$4,000 will also be directed to bringing the All Net Connect notification system to the Municipality.

Additionally, the Plum Coulee and Gretna Fire departments will also each receive $2,000 to purchase some equipment they need, and another $2,000 each for training.

Meantime, Wiebe notes the Municipality also received a second grant of $20,000 from Enbridge, which will be used to help with further remediation and improvements at the Gretna Cemetery following an oil spill last winter.
