Members of the Pembina Valley RCMP were kept busy this past September Long Weekend, responding to a total of 50 calls for service during that period. Among the calls were several, separate crimes against persons including 4 assaults, 1 uttering threats against a person and 1 assault with a weapon being the most serious incident of all, according to RCMP.

Around 7 p.m. Saturday, members were called to a home in Swan Lake where a man had been hit in the head with a blunt object. He was transported to Boundary Trails Health Centre for treatment. As a result, a 46 year old woman was arrested at the home and later released with charges pending. RCMP believe alcohol contributed to the incident.

Additionally, police dealt with two serious traffic collisions, both on Monday, September 2.

The first incident, earlier reported by PembinaValleyOnline, happened around 4 p.m. at the intersection of PTH 14 Road 7 West and sent one person to hospital.

Then at around 7 p.m. members were called to a second collision where it appears a north bound vehicle and a west bound vehicle collided at the intersection of roads 11 North and 34 West in the R.M. of Stanley. According to RCMP, STARS Air Ambulance attended but did not transport anyone, however the drivers were transported to Boundary Trails Health Centre in stable condition.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factors in either collision. RCMP say investigation into both incidents is on-going.

As a result, motorists are being reminded to use their full attention when driving, to stop for all traffic control devices and to make sure it's safe before continuing on, noting intersections carry a high risk for serious incidents to happen. Additionally, with school back in session this week, RCMP also encourage motorists to be aware of reduced speed school zones and to stop for all school buses with stop signs and lights activated, adding failing to do so could result in large fines.

Additional calls for service issued to Pembina Valley RCMP this past weekend included reports of fraud, traffic complaints, break and enters as well as breaching of probation and court orders.
