The Altona and District Chamber of Commerce is declaring last weekend's Downtown Summer Kick Off a great success. The event took place on the Altona Mall parking lot July 5th and 6th, with Wonder Shows returning to town with is popular midway and carnival games.

"We have heard nothing but positive feedback from businesses in the downtown sector and community members," said Chamber Director Stephanie Harris. "The weather definitely played a factor this year, as people were able to enjoy the rides and games with no interference."

Kick Off events have battled less than ideal weather conditions at times in the past, with rain and thunderstorms happening during at least a portion of one of the days in previous years.

"The reaction from downtown businesses has been that it was crazy busy, lots of new customers, and a significant increase in sales," she added.

There were big crowds both days, but Harris noted it's difficult to gauge attendance exactly.

"The ticket booth and most rides had lineups throughout the event," she said. "We also had some Chamber members set up pop-up shops, and many sold out of products."

As for whether the Downtown Summer Kick Off will return next year, Harris said the Chamber is looking forward to working with Wonder Shows to host the event again, but at this time no dates have been booked for 2025.

"A special 'Thank You!' to Wonder Shows for coming to Altona, and putting on one of the community’s most anticipated events for all ages."
