A farmer in the Altona area is pleased with how his crops are coming along.

Leonard Wiebe commented on the year so far.

"They're looking excellent thus far. We had a good, wet spring and everything was a little late. When we finally got to seeding, everything just popped out of the ground and I don't think that we're that far behind as regular years. It will be a little longer fall, but it will all work."

Wiebe is growing wheat, oats, and canola this year.

He says rain would be welcome in the next week or two.

"We're getting the heat. I think in the next week or two if we don't get the odd shower, we'll be praying for rain again."

Wiebe notes he hasn't had any issues with insects or disease, adding there hasn't been any storm damage to his crops either.
