As of Saturday morning, the fundraising goal for this year's Dr. Bob Menzies Bed Push was reached and more than doubled.

For the month of September, a gurney has been set up at the Menzies medical clinic in Morden with information on the campaign alongside a bedpan for collecting donations. A GoFund Me page and a website are also set up, which will continue to be available to make donations for a couple more weeks, according to Dave Guenther, Systems Administrator at Menzies Clinic.

Guenther noted the goal this year was to raise $10,000 for Cancer Care in the Pembina Valley. As of Saturday, more than $20,000 was raised.

"The gurney's been set up in our waiting room for all of September, and people are cheerfully throwing in a toonie or loonie in there and occasionally a twenty in there. Some people have gone online and donated that way, whether anonymously, or by leaving their name. It's not just about the legacy of Dr. Bob, but it's also about the future of this community and the future of the care provided here."

Guenther said with cancer touching so many people's lives, whether they knew Dr. Bob Menzies or not, people have been eager to give.

"Our providers now walk in that same well-worn path of compassion and care. Our doctors are providing phenomenal care to those going through it (cancer) now. So, even though many of our staff never got to work with Dr. Bob, I mean there's a lot of legacy staff around, but some people haven't met him, and you know, there's a lot of memories and things for us who have worked with him.  But we're carrying on that legacy and the same path that they've really set for the providers now that have gone before us."
