Effective 7 a.m. Monday, August 10, a precautionary boil water advisory is being issued for the community of Plum Coulee.

The move comes ahead of scheduled upgrades to the town's water distribution system that officials say will lead to the loss of pressure in the water main supplying the local reservoir. This depressurization can compromise the safety of the water supply.

The boil water advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

In the meantime, consumers are urged to bring tap water to a rolling boil for 1 minute if planning to:
- drink it and/or make ice
- prepare beverages including infant formula
- preparing food including washing fruits and vegetables
- brushing teeth

If it is not possible to following these steps, officials urge consumers to use bottled water for the duration.

It is not necessary to boil tap water for other household purposes such as laundry or washing dishes.

Rate payers will be notified when the advisory is lifted.
