Not many can claim they've thrown a perfect 300 score in 10-pin bowling, and fewer still can claim they've bowled more than one.

Within a week of each other, two men in the Winkler Men's Bowling League scored a perfect game. It was Eric Braun's first 300 game, but for Clint Klassen, it was his eighth. However, both were at the new VB's Entertainment Centre lanes.

Although not his first, Klassen says scoring 300 at the new lanes was pretty special, and since he hasn't scored one in several years, the build-up to it was quite nerve-wracking.

That feeling is something Braun can attest.

"I've been close before, but the whole night I didn't think it was going to happen. The feeling wasn't quite what I was expecting, and the shots weren't as consistent as I would have liked to have been, but they kept adding up. As it went along, I thought this is happening, and as I got to the 9th frame, I started to get nervous."

Braun says he said a little prayer to try and calm his nerves, but with some solid shots pulled that perfect 300.

You never expect to throw a 300, says Klassen. You try at the beginning, but there will always be bad breaks and based on lane conditions and techniques to steel your nerves, you do your best when the opportunity presents itself. But that's why they bowl, trying always to find that rush of excitement.

"I started bowling when I was seven, and my parents owned the bowling alley. Seeing the first time you throw a bunch of strikes, and I keep bowling because of the competition. Now in my older years, I'm not in the competition part as much, so I go to hang with the guys and have some fun."

Klassen and Braun won't only have bragging rights but will walk away with some cash. Valley Bowling owner Abe Hildebrand says for any league bowler who gets a perfect 300 score for the first time they can earn $300.
