Local school breakfast clubs received a boost this week from Farm Credit Canada.

Ecole Morden Middle School and Winkler Elementary School both received a $250 donation.

Western School Division's Carl Pedersen helps organize the Healthy Minds program and says the breakfast clubs help students start their day off right. "It's hard to learn on an empty stomach," he says.

"Some kids come in pretty hungry, others have smaller appetites," he says, adding it's also a time for socializing.

"It's like having a meal with a family, it's important to eat with others. It's an important start to the day."

The daily breakfast program saw 2,300 meals served at Maple Leaf School and 6,800 meals at Ecole Morden Middle School and Morden Collegiate during the 2018/19 school year.

The Winkler Elementary School breakfast club also received a boost from FCC. Kelly Dyck (FCC), Cindy Hamilton (WES principal), Haley McIntosh (FCC)
