Last Friday the Board received a binding directive which states it can no longer spend any money advocating the retention of its monopoly powers.

The order prohibits the Board from spending money on advertising, publishing, or market research which supports the single desk.

Chair Ken Ritter says the directive appears to be unprecedented in Canadian law.

The C.W.B. is currently examining the directive and its implications in more detail.

The Board has asked the feds to rescind the order at the soonest possible date because it's neither necessary nor fair in a democratic nation.

Ritter has also asked the meet with the feds over the directive.

Barring that they've officially requested a plebiscite be held so farmers can decide the future of the C.W.B.
