Construction on the personal care home in Carman is making visible progress as work continues on site.

"Shingles have gone on a couple of the houses. There is work continuing on two of the other ones, and the link connecting the facility is being worked on right now," says Tyler King, Director of Economic Development for the Town of Carman.

The 110-bed facility broke ground in the spring of 2019 and will have 80 beds to accommodate residents with general dementia and other special needs.

King says the difficulty surrounding COVID-19 hasn't made a major impact on construction.

"At this point, I don't believe they've changed a lot since it's started to become more prevalent in everyday life. What we're looking at is how it may affect the supplies of material and equipment as we get closer to the next stages within the development."

They are hopeful that all will continue according to plan, but they are prepared for any changes that could take place.

"No one thing is a greater concern than another. Everything is important in a construction project. You want to make sure that everything's in place including workers, supplies, and materials. If it's not, then things slow down. So far things are going well, but that could change moment-by-moment, and we're looking at this day-by-day right now."

Phase two will see the existing personal care home will be renovated to add 30 beds (the remainder of the 110 total) and modernize support space.
