The cause of November's devastating fire at the Minnewasta Golf and Country Club has been deemed electrical in nature.

"(This) is where the main power comes in to the building and branches off to where it needs to go. That particular junction box had a short circuit in it and caused a fire to start in that box," he explained. "It was such a strong short because of the high power coming into it, it actually burned a hole in the back of the junction box and that ignited the wall in that area and then it spread from there."

Deputy Chief Tim Reimer was the lead at the scene on the day of the fire and he helped investigators navigate through the rubble, noted Thiessen.

"Because he was there right from the start, he was able to see where the major flames and smoke was coming from, which helps whittle things down to an area where it started, and then it's just a matter of going through the ashes and knowing what's there," explained Thiessen. "We were very fortunate that one of the investigators was an electrical engineer, so they were able to go through and put the puzzle together."
