The R.M. of Morris hopes the purchase of a compactor will extend the life of its landfills.

"We are little concerned with the longevity of our landfills...we can see the clock ticking," explained Reeve Scott Siemens.

The used equipment will primarily be located at the landfill in Rosenort, but Siemens said the hope is to bring it to the Lowe Farm landfill once-a-month or so as well.

In a request for further comment, the Municipality noted the hope is to further determine the future of its landfills this year.

Meantime, Siemens reports work on the Prairie Hearth development in Rosenort is progressing.

About a month ago, crews got to work installing utility lines, and the piers have been poured and dirt work completed to make room for a new modular daycare set go up in the development.

As well, Siemens says two groups have purchased a few lots each, and Council has hired a real estate firm to market the rest.
