With COVID-19 public health restrictions putting a damper on the usual Canada Day celebrations this year, a handful of communities in the Pembina Valley have come up with some creative ways to still mark the occasion.

Here is a list of ways you can show your patriotic spirit this Wednesday:

WINKLER
Houses around the City of Winkler will look a bit more festive as Canada Day marks a fun house decorating competition for the community.

A small crew from the city will be driving around all day handing out goodies and judging the decorations.

There will be a live-streamed concert at 7-PM highlighting local bands, Brothers Keep, and The Quonset Brothers.

CARMAN

Fireworks will be lighting up the Carman Fair Grounds for Canada Day this year.

They will go off at dusk, or approximately 11-PM for residents. The town notes that the bleachers and grandstands in the fairgrounds will be closed for viewing and spectators are asked to respect social distancing guidelines.

The Dufferin Historical Museum will also be offering free admission from 10-AM to 5-PM.

RM MORRIS/TOWN OF MORRIS
The Rural Municipality and Town of Morris have joined forces for their Canada Day celebrations. Together they will be hosting a fireworks show at dusk.

They will be set off in the southwest corner of town, but will be launched higher than usual. This should allow spectators to watch from their yard, and enjoy the show from the comfort of their home.

ALTONA
Altona's Canada Day celebrations will start off with a doubleheader as the Jr. Bisons baseball team plays Elmwood on the Access Field at 3 and 6-PM.

Meanwhile, the gallery in the park will be open from 11-AM to 5-PM.

There will also be a Canada Day themed chalk drawing and house decorating contest. Participants are encouraged to send photos to the Altona recreation office.
