The Carman Beavers hockey team is gearing up for another Southeastern Manitoba Hockey League (SEMHL) season and needs a new head coach to lead them from behind the bench.

“It’s always an exciting time, getting everyone back on the ice and yeah, certainly looking forward to another positive year,” said team president Lorne Zacharias. The Beavers are bringing back a young but experienced roster. “Yes, it’s been a young team for a couple of years now already. They’re getting a bit more experience and we do have some openings as well. But certainly the guys, they’re starting to gel a bit and they’re having a pretty positive sort of an experience here.”

The need

The Beavers are still looking for the right person to guide the team this year. “We do still have an opening for a head coach,” said Zacharias. “We’ve got a very good executive in place and all of the help in the background is all there. We just need somebody to help with the on ice, behind the bench type duties.”

Zacharias said the Carman Beavers want a coach who fits their positive locker room culture. “We’ve got such a positive culture in the dressing room and it’s important to me that remains. We want to make sure that we have somebody with a bit of hockey experience just to kind of guide the group.”

He added that coaching a senior hockey team is a very manageable time commitment. “It’s actually not that serious. We put, you know, what it is, 18 games or whatever, half of them on the road, not a ton of travel. I’d like to see the guys practicing a little bit, but at the same time, it’s certainly not an onerous task.”
