The Darlingford Fire Department has nearly reached its' fundraising goal thanks to a $22,000 donation from the Morden Thrift Shop. The Morden Community Thrift Shop which gave out $500,000 to 17 local organizations earlier this month.

"They're an amazing group of people," Darlingford Fire Department's Cal Funk says. "To give out this kind of money is heartwarming... completely blown away."

Funk explains the new equipment they're after will support heavier vehicles like cement trucks, farm equipment and semis. The new vehicle stabilization struts would support vehicles while members work with the jaws of life and other tools to free people from vehicles that have flipped over.

A truck driver himself, Funk says he's aware of how many large vehicles are on the road and the severity of accidents when semis are involved.

"These accidents don't happen very often, thankfully, but the reality is we have to be prepared."

He notes the equipment will also benefit neighbouring communities through the mutual aid district.

The Darlingford Fire Department currently boasts 18 members. "We're very well staffed for our size of community, very dedicated, just a great bunch of guys."
