There is a delay in setting up a severe weather alert radio system in our area.

Altona Emergency Measures Coordinator Bob Stoesz says Industry Canada is still looking for a suitable frequency, due to a crowded band width in the region.

Stoesz notes the system equipment is waiting at Environment Canada.

Work on the Altona tower site will begin as soon as a broadcast frequency has been established.

The alert signal would reach about 30 000 residents.

12 municipal jurisdictions are supporting the project.
