The City of Winkler is providing additional details regarding a break-in at city hall this past Sunday afternoon, June 30th. The incident remains under investigation by Winkler Police Service, which earlier this week released a screenshot of surveillance footage of a person of interest in the case.

City officials have confirmed a small number of items were stolen, including less than a dozen cheques written out to the City of Winkler. The owners of those cheques have all been contacted and informed of the situation.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, it was indicated in response to the break-in, the city is taking steps to enhance its security measures to mitigate future occurrences.

Officials are also confident the quality of City Hall's video surveillance will help lead to the identification of the suspect.

"We appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation during this time," noted the statement. "We will continue to work closely with law enforcement to resolve this matter and ensure the safety
and security of our City Hall."
