A development agreement passed Tuesday night during Winkler city council's meeting, should ensure housing needs in the growing city continue to be met.

Winkler Mayor Martin Harder says it will include a mix of housing types, including affordable housing. The developer plans to subdivide 136 residential lots, and build 48 duplexes, 7 six-plexes, 2 eight-plexes, and a future ~30-unit apartment complex.

"When you take a lot at a development that's over 140 dwelling units and you have a combination of multi-family and duplex and single family, it's an ideal situation," said Harder.

"To me, the most exciting thing to me is that it's infill...from a city's perspective, it's exciting, opportunities for growth, and development will start taking place there, and it's exciting to see."

The development is located between Northlands Parkway and Highway 14, on the east of 15th Street.

Harder says it's great to see that developers are still keen on investing and building in Winkler.

Harder, it's exciting to see that attitude has continued, especially as he prepares to leave the mayor's office in September.
