A dirty licence plate and subsequent traffic stop led to a number of weapon and drug charges for four male youths.

On May 20, while on patrol Winkler police officers observed a vehicle travelling with a licence plate heavily obscured by dirt. A traffic stop was conducted, at which time open liquor was observed inside the vehicle.

The four male occupants were arrested for the unlawful transportation of liquor, and a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a weapon along with magic mushrooms and LSD. One of the male youths was also found to be in possession of cannabis.

All occupants were subsequently charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Possession of a Schedule III Substance (x2). A 16-year-old male was released on an Appearance Notice for the Possession of cannabis by a young person and the Possession of liquor by a minor. A 19-year-old male was released on an Appearance Notice for the Unlawful transportation of liquor in a vehicle, and a 21-year-old male was released on an Appearance Notice for the Obscured number plate on a vehicle.

All four males were also released on undertakings, and the two male youths’ parents were notified of the incident.
