Total enrolment in Border Land School Division this year is expected to be around 2,330 students.

Superintendent Tim Mendel says that's up about 50 students from last year.

Mendel notes this is because of an increase of grade 9-12 students from the Roseau River First Nation, and an increase at W.C. Miller in Altona.

As for declining enrolment, schools in the south east portion of the division are holding their own.

Mendel says this year Ross L. Gray School in Sprague had a surprise increase of 10 students from the Northwest Angle First Nation in Minnesota.
