Rural Manitoba has become a hot bed for drug operations such as crystal meth labs and marijuana grow operations in recent years.

Municipal leaders are looking to put an end to this trend.

Area municipalities have expressed interest in helping the RCMP spot drug operations, and the Association of Manitoba Municipalities is working on providing the necessary information to make this happen.

Executive Director Joe Masi says people seem to be caught off guard when drug operations are found in their community and it takes a community to fight the problem.

The Association holds its annual convention this month.

Masi says the RCMP will do a presentation on how elected officials can help spot illegal activity, as well as what the community can do to curb drug operations.
